Tourists in Russia want to be “tagged” with QR codes, they will include travel data

Starting from autumn, tourist trips across Russia will be accompanied by electronic vouchers and QR codes, which will become mandatory. The codes will contain information about tourists and their routes, and the data will be transferred to a single electronic system by tour operators.

This is enshrined in a law that will come into force on September 1, 2022, it was adopted at the end of May. The document provides an explanation of the concept of "electronic voucher". This is a document that includes data from the contract between the tourist and the operator.

“The federal law establishes the obligation of the tour operator to transfer the information contained in the agreement on the sale of the tourist product to the unified information system of electronic vouchers and the obligation of the travel agent to send the tour operator a notification of the conclusion of such an agreement, and also determines the procedure and terms for the performance by the tour operator and the travel agent of these duties,” the statement says. in the document. At the same time, liability is introduced only from 2023.

The algorithm looks like this: the tourist concludes a contract in writing, after which his data enters the unified information system of electronic vouchers, and the tourist himself is given a QR code, where the travel data is encrypted.

This will allegedly increase the transparency of the travel package market and enable government agencies to get a detailed picture of tourism products, service sellers and the number of tours sold.

It is also claimed that this will improve the provision of services to tourists and will protect them from personal data leakage and other problems.

Earlier it was reported that it is planned to protect diplomas of secondary vocational education from forgery with similar codes.
