On August 23, Yandex made the ya.ru website a single entry point to its services. The company explained that the page focuses on clean search and asks users to “start searching in a new way” using it.
A more advanced version of ya.ru is already available at new.ya.ru. That's just the meaning of the minimal design and just the search page is somehow lost.
Yandex explained that it will abandon the news aggregator and will develop ya.ru as its new main page. After the transaction for the sale of media assets — Zena and Novosti — is closed, the ya.ru page will become the main entry point to Search, Mail, and other company services, including the Yandex ID user account. The company will also release a new Yandex with Alice application for Android.
“The core of the new homepage and new app will be Search. On ya.ru, users will have access to a universal search - to search for anything anywhere, search verticals - to find, for example, pictures or products, and Alice - to quickly get answers, ”Yandex explained.
On June 17, Yandex expanded the minimalism and search-centricity of the page of its simple and convenient ya.ru page by adding weather, traffic jams, links to company services and mail, as well as access to a microphone.
“We decided to develop ya.ru as one of the entry points with a focus on universal search, specialized search verticals and Alice. Minimalism and search-centricity will be the main principles of ya.ru. We also plan to release a new mobile application with the same product focus, ”the Yandex representative explained to A.
It is noteworthy that at the bottom of the new ya.ru page, the developers left a small and inconspicuous toggle switch with a small transparent text “minimalistic look”. When activated, the page returns to its normal beautiful old classic look.
On the evening of June 17, Yandex changed the name of the toggle switch to ya.ru from “minimalistic look” to “old design”.
Now the Yandex developers have completely removed access to the old classic look of the ya.ru page for ordinary users. As a third-party analogue, the y0.ru page is still working.
