Samsung, where is the next generation SSD? 990 Pro drive introduced, but no PCIe 5.0

Samsung has unveiled its new top consumer solid state drive. We are talking about the SSD 990 Pro model in several configurations.

The SSD is based on Samsung V-NAND TLC memory and a controller developed by Samsung itself. The drive is available in 1, 2 or 4 TB versions with 1, 2 or 4 GB of LPDDR4 memory.

The read and write speeds are declared equal to 7450 and 6900 MB / s, respectively, and already here many could understand that the SSD does not support PCIe 5.0. Yes, the PCIe 4.0 interface is indeed used here, and in fact the SSD 990 Pro is not particularly faster than the SSD 980 Pro. There is a difference, but PCIe 5.0 drives, according to early announcements, will provide speeds of about 12-14 GB / s.

The performance of the novelty is 1.4 million IOPS and 1.55 million IOPS on read and write tasks, respectively. This is already one and a half times more than the 980 Pro.

The SSD is available in versions without a heatsink. The price is $180 and $310 for the 1TB and 2TB drives, with the 4TB version not coming until next year. It will be possible to buy the younger ones in October.
