NASA again postponed the launch of the Artemis 1 mission, now for an indefinite time

On September 24, 2022, NASA announced that it was indefinitely postponing the launch of the SLS rocket scheduled for the 27th as part of the Artemis 1 mission and removing it from the launch pad. This is due to an impending tropical storm.

"NASA is relinquishing the launch option and is preparing to remove the rocket from the launch site while continuing to monitor the weather forecast related to Tropical Storm Ian," a spokesman for the agency said.

At the moment, an emergency has been declared in the state of Florida, and the storm itself formed in the Caribbean Sea on September 24. It is expected to intensify to the level of a full hurricane in a few days.

The storm is forecast to pass southwest of Jamaica, pass over the Cayman Islands, and also cross western Cuba. It will reach the coast of Florida in the middle of next week.

So far, NASA is considering an October 5 launch, as the current window, which runs until October 4, is likely to be missed. If the hurricane does not decrease, then the date will be postponed again. Thereafter, launch windows may be October 17-31, excluding October 24-26 and October 28.

Earlier, due to a malfunction, the NASA probe flying to the moon was transferred to a safe mode of operation.
