Netflix is developing 55 new games for paying subscribers

Streaming service Netflix is developing 55 new games for paying subscribers, according to a letter to investors. There are currently 35 games on the platform.

In addition to 55 games, Netflix plans to release additional game projects based on its own franchises. The company introduced the first games for Android and iOS at the end of last year.

Netflix is counting on games to be one of the reasons users stay on the platform. Representatives of the service noted that the games allow you to keep subscribers. The company will continue to invest in this area.

However, according to Apptopia, less than 1% of subscribers play Netflix games every day. In the announcement of new projects, the company did not specify the list of compatible platforms, which suggests that the service will not be limited to mobile devices.

The site offers games such as Into the Breach, Heads Up!, Before Your Eyes - the latter received a BAFTA award. In September of this year, Netflix announced the opening of a game development studio in Finland. The developer company was headed by Marco Lastikka, who previously served as vice president at Zynga and Digital Chocolate.

Last September, Netflix bought Night School Studio, which developed Oxenfree and Afterparty. In March this year, the company acquired Next Games and Boss Fight Entertainment, which are working on mobile games.

In the third quarter of 2022, Netflix attracted 2.4 million new subscribers. The company lost almost 1 million paid subscribers in the previous quarter. In the spring, the service reported that for the first time in 10 years, the number of platform customers decreased.
