CD Projekt RED announces remake of original The Witcher

In early October, CD Projekt RED made several announcements. The first was from CD Projekt RED co-founder Marcin Iwinski that he is leaving the CEO position before the end of 2022. The second statement concerned the announcements of the continuation of Cyberpunk 2077, several new games in the The Witcher universe and a number of other projects. And now the secret of one of the projects, codenamed Canis Majoris, has been revealed. This project was announced as another role-playing action movie in The Witcher universe, but it is being developed by a third-party studio. Today, CD Projekt RED announced that this is a remake of the original The Witcher, released 15 years ago. This project is handled by the Polish studio Fool's Theory, consisting of veterans CD Projekt RED.

According to CD Projekt RED, she will oversee the development of The Witcher remake. Interestingly, Fool's Theory employees worked on The Witcher series. They promise to rebuild the original The Witcher on Unreal Engine 5 and pay attention to even the smallest details. The original game was made on the game engine Aurora from BioWare, but the engine was reworked almost entirely (80%). Now the project is in the early stages of development, and the release is still far away.

It is not yet known on which platforms the game will be released and whether it will be cross-platform, although it most likely will be.

As mentioned, the first game in The Witcher series was released for PC in 2007. This was followed in 2008 by an expanded edition of the game. The game wasn't as big a hit as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. However, in Eastern Europe and the CIS countries, it has become very popular due to an interesting plot and reverent attitude to the original book universe. In the game, only the combat system raised questions among some players, and CD Projekt RED later abandoned it in other parts.
