RISC-V International announced the inclusion of additions to the Android Open Source Project repository that support hardware solutions with the RISC-V architecture. The Android Open Source Project provides the information and source code needed to create custom Android flavors and adapt devices and accessories to the built OS.
This repository helps with compatibility issues. Back in 2010, Chinese specialists from the PLCT laboratory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences began porting Android 10 to the RISC-V architecture. Alibaba Cloud also contributes to porting. Its cloud platform supports extending core Android features on RISC-V processors. The company also opened its developments on the XuanTie E902, E906, C906 and C910 cores with the aforementioned architecture.
Alibaba Cloud has prepared 76 patches to support RISC-V on Android. This patch pack affects various elements including libraries, frameworks, developer tools and all sorts of external modules. About 30 patches are already part of the Android Open Source Project.
According to the organization, it continues to work with the Android community in the areas of mobile gadgets, data centers and other devices. The need for different architectures and design flexibility is driving the adoption of RISC-V. This is evidenced by the rapid growth of the global ecosystem of software ported to RISC-V.”
