The specialist revealed a new danger of downloading torrents

Downloading torrents threatens to hack into the computer with a ransomware virus, which will demand a ransom for saving the victim's files. Artur Filatov, head of the cybersecurity business of Tet (formerly Lattelecom), revealed a new danger in the commentary.

"Torrents are the fastest and most convenient way to distribute Trojans and viruses that encrypt all user data and then demand a ransom for them," the expert warned.

According to Filatov, even downloading content through popular torrent trackers, with a 90% probability, a user can get to a fraudulent file that contains malware masquerading as additional mods for games, movie subtitles, or embedded in a hacked version of the application.

He clarified that most often malware is stored in torrents with software and games that the user needs to open and install. "Such files are required to be included in the antivirus whitelists before being launched, which allows malicious programs to safely attack the system," he explained.

Fraudsters are interested in using viruses via torrents for other purposes: mining cryptocurrency, connecting a hacked gadget to a botnet to participate in a DDoS attack and sending phishing emails on social networks on behalf of the user, Filatov concluded.

Earlier it was reported that the popular activator of the pirated version of Windows and Office KMSpico infects computers with malware that steals data from cryptocurrency wallets.
