Pressing the “no, thanks” button still leads to the payment screen.
Users reported (1, 2) that due to a bug in the location of buttons and their descriptions in the Microsoft 365 trial page interface, it is impossible to access the Windows 10 desktop without entering card details for payment. The problem affected PCs with Windows 10 out of the box (OOBE version) and manifests itself before loading the OS desktop.
From the full-screen notification interface for the free trial version of Microsoft 365, for some unknown reason, the developers did not give the option to exit without providing a bank card number to activate the trial version of Microsoft 365.
After clicking “No thanks”, the user is taken to the “Confirm payment method” screen, where only one option remains: “Start trial, buy later.”
Previously, similar toast notifications from Microsoft always contained a "Skip Now" button at the bottom left of the screen. However, this time around, Microsoft has replaced that button with a "Privacy and Cookies" link.
“Windows 10 won't let me boot to my desktop without first agreeing to accept their free trial and $100 subscription. Of course, I canceled the subscription after logging in, but WTF Microsoft, ”a Reddit user was surprised.
“It looks like the developers accidentally mixed up the lines for the “no thanks” and “yes, I’ll try” buttons. The “try it” button should actually be a “no thanks” button,” another Reddit user explained.
In early February 2023 on Windows 10, many users received a full-screen notification about a free upgrade to Windows 11. There is no way to turn off the new notification, and when it occurs, users need to complete a small quest if they want to stay on Windows 10. To exit the interface ( there is no one button to close the notification immediately) it takes up to five clicks, which a Windows 10 user must correctly do in order not to install Windows 11.
