Russia (bbabo.net), - According to the Kommersant newspaper’s own sources, the Aurus company is considering the possibility of organizing assembly production on the basis of the former Toyota plant in Shushary. Information also appeared about Gazprom’s interest in this project. The plant in Shushary belongs to FSUE NAMI, the main shareholder of Aurus.
Ownership of Aurus is distributed between Federal State Unitary Enterprise NAMI (63.5%), the Arab fund Tawazun (36%) and the Sollers company (0.5%). Since mid-2021, Aurus began mass production in Yelabuga, where body welding and painting are also carried out at the Sollers site. Production volumes for the car plant are small. Currently the Aurus Senat and Komendant SUV models are produced. It was planned to produce 200 Komendant vehicles in 2023.
The Gazprom board of directors planned to discuss the implementation of the Aurus project in early December. In October 2023, Vedomosti reported, citing sources, that Gazprom could invest in Aurus capital with a stake of up to 40%.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said on December 14, 2023 that Aurus will introduce a whole line of cars, including limousines, sedans, SUVs and buses, and added that it is necessary to begin their mass production.
This information was initially noticed by the Russian Automobile Telegram channel, which we reported. The same channel noted a number of vacancies from Aurus for production personnel in St. Petersburg.
Kommersant sent inquiries to Aurus, NAMI and KamAZ. Gazprom refused to comment on this information. The government of St. Petersburg neither confirmed nor denied plans to produce Aurus at the plant in Shushary. Chairman of the city committee on industrial policy, innovation and trade Kirill Soloveichik said that he could not confirm this information at the moment.
