Microsoft is investigating an issue where apps crash in Windows Server 2022 after installing update KB5034129

Microsoft has confirmed that it is aware of application crashes on Windows Server 2022 after installing the KB5034129 update. The company is looking into the bug reports and will share more details soon, Windows Latest reports.

Last week, Windows users began receiving complaints that the KB5034129 update for Windows Server 2022 was breaking Microsoft Edge, Chrome and Firefox and Adobe products. Users report that browsers and applications open with blank pages.

Mandatory update KB5034129 was released on January 9, which included fixes for problems with Microsoft Intune, a cloud-based endpoint management solution. We also fix an issue that causes Microsoft Excel to stop responding when trying to share an Excel worksheet as a PDF in Outlook, and issues with the Wi-Fi adapter. However, after installation, users began reporting errors in browsers and Adobe software. The problem appeared on both Windows 11 and Windows 10.

Attempts to resolve the issue without uninstalling the update, including reinstalling the affected applications, were unsuccessful. According to Windows Latest, Chrome was made to work by deleting the registry key chrome.exe, located in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options.
