Windows 10 users have reported apps not working on PCs with older CPUs after installing updates from Microsoft

At the end of January 2024, Windows 10 users reported that after installing the January updates from Microsoft, they encountered large numbers of applications not working on PCs with older processors (for example, Core 2 Duo or AMD Athlon). When starting the standard software, a notification appears with the inscription: “File system error (-2147219196).”

For example, users cannot open the “Photos” application, “Calculator”, “Movies and TV”, “Feedback Center” (a very ironic situation), 3D Viewer, and so on.

Microsoft has not yet responded to user complaints or acknowledged the problem. Subject matter experts believe that recent updates to these Windows 10 apps are based on instructions that are not supported by many older processors. Another possibility is that there may have been a simple and unintentional developer error that has left legacy hardware unable to run the latest Windows 10 apps.

So far, the discussion of this problem already takes up 35 pages on the official Microsoft forum. All possible recommended attempts to fix the situation from Microsoft technical support do not help (troubleshooting, reinstalling applications, sfc/scannow, DISM online health check).
