Pavel Durov spoke about the new life of his TON blockchain project and Toncoin cryptocurrency. According to the entrepreneur, the technology is “alive and developing”.
According to Durov, when Telegram abandoned the TON project in 2020, he "expressed the hope that future generations of developers would one day continue our vision of a blockchain platform for the mass market." The founder of Telegram notes that the champions of the messenger coding contests have continued to develop the open source project TON, which they renamed Toncoin.
Currently, the project is being handled by the Open source community development team, to which Telegram transferred the initial ton.org domain, as well as the original repository, where work on the blockchain began. The project was renamed The Open Network, retaining the abbreviation TON.
Durov is confident that when it comes to scalability and speed, TON "is still ahead of everything else in the blockchain space."
