Google will close Google Pay in the US in the summer of 2024

Google will stop supporting Google Pay in the US on June 4, 2024. Back in 2022, Google Wallet practically replaced Google Pay, but the system continues to work in several countries, including the United States. By closing the service, the corporation seeks to simplify its payment applications.

After the US shutdown, Google Pay will only be available in India and Singapore due to the “unique needs of these countries,” Google notes.

As part of the end of support, the corporation will disappear the following functions: P2P payments, search for offers and deals, as well as balance management on the platform. Customers should transfer their funds from Google Pay balance to bank accounts before June 4 through the system website.

Google noted that Google Wallet has largely replaced Google Pay - the service has five times more users in 180 countries. Among other things, the popularity of the service is due to the fact that it can not only process payments, but also store tickets, ID cards, virtual keys for transport and much more.

Google Wallet launched in 2011 as a one-touch payment system. The service appeared three years before Apple Pay and was supported by Mastercard and retail chains. In 2015, Android Pay was released, which in 2018 was integrated with Google Wallet and renamed Google Pay.
