Tesla agreed to turn off games in moving electric vehicles

Tesla will ban games on the on-board screen of electric vehicles while driving to avoid accidents, according to the New York Times, citing the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

In the near future, the company will release a software update that will block the Passenger Play function while driving. Car owners will be able to play games only in a stationary car - in the parking lot or during a stop.

Earlier in December, it became known that Tesla electric cars allow you to run games on the built-in screen while driving. The NYT wrote that the on-board computer makes it possible to run solitaire in the Tesla Model 3. The newspaper noted that this is contrary to the provisions of the NHTSA and US laws, which are aimed at combating distracted drivers during the trip.

Later NHTSA reported that similar problems were identified in 580 thousand Tesla Model 3, S, X and Y 2017-2021 models. The Passenger Play feature appeared in electric cars in December 2020, but previously it was only possible to play when the car was parked. At the same time, while driving, it is provided with a warning that only passengers can play - but nothing prevents drivers from pressing the corresponding button on the screen to play themselves.

After complaints from users, the department decided to start an investigation. The agency believes that the use of Passenger Play while driving distracts drivers and increases the risk of accidents.
