Apple will begin paying customers in Canada in a lawsuit due to the slowdown of iPhones with old batteries

Apple will pay $14.4 million to iPhone owners in Canada to settle a class-action lawsuit over slow performance of Apple smartphones with older batteries. As part of the settlement, iPhone users will receive between $13 and $110.

The plaintiffs accused Apple of secretly throttling iPhones as the devices' batteries degraded. In 2017, the corporation quietly deployed performance throttling to prevent unexpected iPhone shutdowns. This comes as iPhone batteries are found to be unable to maintain peak performance as they age.

Apple implemented this option as part of the iOS 10.2.1 update in February 2017. When this became known, the company apologized, reduced the cost of replacing the battery and gave users the option to disable the feature.

In January of this year, Apple began paying $500 million to iPhone users in the United States to settle a similar class action lawsuit. Thus, each victim will be able to receive $97.12 from the company. Now Canadian citizens will also receive payments. The amount of compensation will depend on how many people apply. This opportunity is available in all regions of Canada except Quebec.

The payment is available to owners of iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, SE, 7 and 7 Plus with iOS 10.2.1 or 11.2 installed or downloaded before December 21, 2017.
