Specialists of the Federal Biomedical Agency (FMBA) have developed a new vaccine against coronavirus "Konvasel". According to the head of the FMBA, Veronika Skvortsova, she can be registered as early as 2022, RIA Novosti reports.
The agency will submit a report on the use of the drug by the end of this year. The first vaccinations were given at the end of the summer.
“If we say that everything was, this is six months of observation after the introduction. If so, then this [registration of the vaccine] will be until the end of the first quarter, "Skvortsova said.
She added that none of those vaccinated by Konvasal got sick with COVID-19. About 100 days have passed since the first one and a half hundred volunteers were vaccinated.
“No one has yet got sick, although people are on a free regime, this is very important, because protection is in force,” the news agency reports Skvortsova as saying.
An industrial site is ready for the production of the drug, which allows producing up to 30 million doses annually.
Director of the Research Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Viral Infections Georgy Vikulov in a conversation with the radio station "Moscow speaking" spoke about the principle of action of "Konvasel".
“Basically, this is a concentrate or suspension of the new SARS-CoV-2. This is an inactivated vaccine, close to those that are created according to the classical method - whole-virion. In this case, the pathogen was killed, ”the expert explained.
According to him, during the preclinical phase of trials involving animals, the vaccine has shown the ability to effectively promote the creation of immunity. Further studies should show the differences between Konvasel and other vaccines, Vikulov noted.
The whole-virion inactivated vaccine is also "KoviVak", developed by the Scientific Center for Research and Development of Immunobiological Preparations named after V.I. Chumakov RAS.
