During Sony's presentation at CES 2022, the company showed off the Vision-S EV, which was announced two years ago at the same event, as well as the new Vision-S 02 crossover. The main surprise was the imminent establishment of a new division that will focus on electric vehicles.
While the entire public has been waiting for years for Apple to announce its car, Sony has already shown a couple of working prototypes filled with its technology and is now taking it one step further. Sony Mobilty will be formed in the spring of 2022 and will help the company "explore the possibility of entering the car market."
Sony has posted several demonstration videos on YouTube of both Vision-S prototype electric vehicles. Some of them hint at the ideal lifestyle that these cars could be a part of. Others showcase user interface designs or remote control via a 5G connection linking Tokyo and Germany in real time.
After two years of testing the Vision-S in Europe and Japan, Sony unveiled the Vision-S 0. It is a 4.85 meter, seven-seat all-electric crossover that can be compared to the Tesla Model Y. Sony has confirmed that it is built on the same platform as and the Vision-S sedan. Like the earlier model, the Vision-S 02 has a pair of 200 kW motors, one for each axle, so it will provide all-wheel drive and a total output of 536 hp. Acceleration data has not been released, but in 2020 Sony said the Vision-S could go from 0 to 100 km / h in less than 5 seconds.
The car will receive dozens of cameras and sensors. A variety of entertainment options will be available in the salon, including an audio system and video games via a remote connection to the PlayStation. There will be at least six screens inside:
