UVCeed turns smartphone into a mobile disinfector

UVCeed unveiled the device of the same name - in its words, "the safest and smartest mobile ultraviolet disinfection tool that effectively kills germs, bacteria and viruses, including COVID-19, by 99.9% in seconds."

The UVCeed device connects to your smartphone. Its design includes powerful UV LEDs (wavelength 275 nm) and multiple sensors, which, together with iCide Safety and iCide Smart Dosage technologies, allow for safe use and intelligent dosage of radiation.

To be convincing, the press release says that the UVCeed mobile disinfector was created by Peter Bonutti, MD, a renowned surgeon, inventor, author, professor, consultant and entrepreneur with over 30 years of experience. He is the founder of Bonutti Research, an "incubator" that develops medical equipment and technology.

“You can't predict when you will need disinfection,” said Bonutti, co-founder and CEO of UVCeed. - UVCeed is a mobile, portable system that can be used anywhere for disinfection or sterilization. It is a non-chemical treatment of surfaces, food, air or personal protective equipment that allows users and their families to feel safe in an environment full of pathogens. This is the future of fighting germs, bacteria and viruses, especially at large venues such as CES. "

iCide Smart Dosage delivers optimal processing volume, avoiding both a false sense of security and increased risk of contamination, as well as discoloration and damage to polymers and other materials. In addition, built-in object recognition lets UVCeed know if a surface has recently been sanitized.

iCide Safety uses a machine learning algorithm to reduce the chances of accidental exposure and misuse. Using a phone camera and a time-of-flight sensor, UVCeed pauses irradiation when it detects movement or living objects, so there is no risk of UV harm to humans or animals.

As a guideline for the processing speed, the manufacturer cites the following data: 90% disinfection can be carried out in just a few seconds, and to destroy 99.9% of bacteria and viruses it can take 30-60 seconds, depending on the size of the object and the distance to it.

UVCeed works with all iOS and Android smartphones that support BLE. The device uses a USB-C connector to charge the battery (cable included).

UVCeed costs $ 130.
