The head of the gaming division of AMD, Frank Azor (Frank Azor) in a fresh interview explained some not the most understandable moments of the past announcement of the company.

First, he explained why the new Radeon RX 6500 XT has only 4 GB of memory, despite the fact that before that, within the RX 6000 line, the company tried to offer more memory than competing adapters. There were two reasons. Firstly, memory is expensive these days, and AMD had to reduce its size to fit within the recommended $ 200. True, the realities of the market are such that the $ 200 recommended price does not matter. The second reason is miners. A card with 4 GB of memory and a 64-bit bus is simply useless for them. This could make the RX 6500 XT more affordable both in terms of the number of cards in retail and at real prices. In addition, Azor hinted that a modification with 8 GB of memory may come out later.

The second question, which was not initially disclosed, concerns the announcement of the Ryzen 7 5800X3D. Recall that this is practically the same Ryzen 7 5800X, but with lower frequencies and an additional 64 MB of 3D V-Cache cache. The question is, this was the only such CPU that AMD spoke about. And it looks like, at least temporarily, it will really be unique. The company says it first wants to see how the market exemplifies 3D V-Cache technology itself, before expanding its line of similar CPUs. Considering that the discussed processor will be released in the spring, and the completely new Ryzen 7000 will be released in the second half of the year, it is likely that within the Ryzen 5000 line, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D model will remain the only one of its kind. And the choice towards the Ryzen 7 5800X, as a basis, fell because AMD considers it to be the optimal gaming processor.

Azor also spoke a little about the AM5 platform, which will debut with the Ryzen 7000 in the second half of the year. Azor made no direct promises, but hinted that AM5 could become as long-playing a platform as AM4.
