Brave browser users doubled to 50 million in 2021

Brave's privacy-enhanced browser has doubled its audience to 50 million monthly users. The program was developed by Brave Software and launched in 2016.

Brave is based on the Chromium browser and powered by the Blink engine. A feature of the program is that it does not transfer confidential data to third-party companies, for example, Google and Microsoft. Also, the creators of the browser assure that it removes intrusive ads.

Brave SoftWare reports that the number of active users per day reached 15.5 million. The company has provided data on the audience of the browser since 2017, then the number of active users per month was equal to 1.2 million.

The number of searches in Brave Search is 2.3 billion per year. The number of verified authors grew by 30% to reach 1.3 million. Advertising platform revenue quadrupled in 2021. More than 8 million users earn BAT currency (Basic Attention Token) through Brave Rewards. Brave Ads has provided about 7.5 billion events with advertising over its entire existence. The Brave mobile app has been downloaded over 10 million times.

Brave CEO and co-founder Brendan Eich says the company's annual results show an increasing trend towards finding alternative solutions that aren't followed by users. He added that in 2021, Brave Software continued to shed its influence from large companies by expanding its product range.

Eich says the company will try to double the result by the end of 2022.

In November 2020, Brave reported that the number of monthly active users increased from 8.7 million to 20.5 million in a year. The number of daily users increased from 3 million to 7 million.

In November 2021, Brave launched the Brave Wallet, which allows users to store, manage, expand and exchange cryptocurrency. The solution does not require the installation of additional extensions and does not conflict with other crypto wallets.

In October, Brave replaced the default Google search engine for new users in the US, UK and Canada with its own solution, Brave Search. The system is also intended to replace Qwant in France and DuckDuckGo in Germany.

In September, the Brave Talk feature was launched for the browser, which is a confidential video communication. The solution was previously called Brave Together and has been tested since spring 2020.
