Sony awaits patent for 3D scanner that puts real-world objects into virtual reality

Last June, Sony filed a patent application that describes a 3D scanner capable of placing real-world objects into virtual reality. The filing came to the attention of the source, as the patent office recently asked Sony to resubmit documents with more details, and the company did so.

Judging by the application, the 3D scanner will allow scanning not only small objects, but even quite large ones. The main condition is to be able to scan it from all sides, that is, the angles must cover all 360 °. In addition, the scanner can be used not only to place real objects in the virtual world, but also to better match the real environment with the virtual one.

Of course, it is worth remembering that this is just a patent, so it is not known how soon the development described in it will appear in serial devices and whether it will appear at all.
