Samsung Electronics Unveils Together for Tomorrow Development Concept at CES 2022

The new development concept "Together for Tomorrow" ("Together for Tomorrow") is aimed at close cooperation between companies in solving urgent environmental problems. Jong-Hee Han, Vice Chairman, CEO and Head of Device eXperience (DX), Samsung spoke about a new milestone in the company's development, focused on the experience of unity of the changing lifestyles of consumers, and innovations that are beneficial for the progress of society and the planet.

Chon-Hee Han noted:

“I am very glad that together with us you will be able to see how innovations are changing the world, and by joining us, make the future better. Through our developments, sustainable development will become part of the use of Samsung products, and the lives of users will be greener. ”

Samsung's Together for Tomorrow is about sustainability every day. According to the company, this means that concern for the environment is a priority in its activities. For example, the use of new production methods with a lower environmental impact, the use of eco-packaging, the correct disposal of products at the end of their life cycle. Or work to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the production of Samsung memory chips in 2021 led to a decrease in emissions by almost 700 thousand tons.

But environmental work is not only about semiconductor manufacturing, but also about the use of recycled materials. In 2022, Samsung's Visual Display Business has plans to use 30 times more recycled plastic than in 2021. Over the next three years, the company plans to use recycled materials for mobile devices and home appliances. Last year, Samsung already used recycled raw materials for its TV cases. This year the company will expand this practice and use recycled materials for the production of packaging devices. For example, styrofoam, holders and bags. There are also plans to expand the Eco-Packaging program worldwide. And, as stated on the company's website:

"Thanks to her, users will be able to transform cardboard eco-packaging from TVs into cat houses, bedside tables and other useful interior items."

In addition to using boxes in everyday life, Samsung presented its other solutions - for example, improved the SolarCell Remote control. In addition to the solar panel, it has the ability to charge from radio waves emitted by devices such as Wi-Fi routers. But there is a caveat - for charging, the remote control must be near a source of radio frequencies in the 2.4 GHz range. But it will ship with all new Samsung products like new TVs and new appliances.

In addition, Samsung plans to switch its TVs and phone chargers to near-zero-power standby by 2025. Chon-Hee Han estimates that this would allow the use of 200 million less. The vice chairman also said that technologies to improve the environment will be available to other manufacturers, thanks to open source code.

But that's not all - ahead of CES 2022, a collaboration with clothing brand Patagonia was announced. Both companies are now working on the problem of microplastics from Samsung washing machines entering waterways during the wash. As Vincent Stanley, director of corporate philosophy at Patagonia, put it:

"This is a serious problem that we cannot solve alone."

In addition to taking care of the environment, Samsung presented at the exhibition:

The Freestyle is a portable projector capable of delivering images up to 100 inches. It also has a sound system (which makes it also a speaker), built-in streaming apps and many other Smart TV features;

The Odyssey Ark - 55-inch curved gaming display

Samsung Gaming Hub is a versatile platform for cloud and console gaming (in partnership with NVIDIA GeForce NOW, Google Stadia and Utomik). It will be available on 2022 TVs and monitors with Smart TVs.

And also new products of Bespoke household appliances were presented:

Bespoke Family Hub refrigerator models, as well as French 3-Door (three-door) and French 4-Door (four-door);

vacuum cleaner Bespoke Jet ™;

washing and drying machine Bespoke;

dishwasher models;

microwave ovens.

And for the first time at CES, a new format for smart home control was presented - Samsung Home Hub. As stated by Samsung, this is "the beginning of an era of universal compatibility." This will be possible thanks to the SmartThings service, which allows you to control all smart appliances in your home. Samsung Home Hub combines six SmartThings services into one convenient device that gives users complete control over their smart home. Samsung intends to implement SmartThings Hub functionality in 2022 Family Hub TVs, Smart Displays and Refrigerators.
