Updated information on fire at Berlin ASML plant published

ASML Holding NV (ASML) recently released an update on the January 3 fire at its plant in Berlin. Over the past few days, a manufacturer of key semiconductor manufacturing equipment has completed a preliminary damage assessment.

A fire broke out in part of a production building at a site in Berlin, and smoke partially affected an adjacent building. The company has already managed to resume production in some parts of these buildings. The rest of the plant has not been damaged and is fully functional.

While the damage assessment is ongoing, the current ASML view of it looks like this:

The production plans for metrology and control products are not affected as they do not use components manufactured in Berlin.

The production of components for lithography in the deep ultraviolet (DUV) range has been resumed. Despite the fact that there were some failures in this section, the company expects to fix them so that it does not affect the implementation of the production plan.

With regard to EUV, the fire affected part of the production area where clamps for semiconductor wafers are produced - important modules of EUV systems. A remediation plan for this facility is being finalized and measures are being finalized to minimize the potential impact on customers, both in terms of system release and in terms of service.

The manufacturer plans to publish a report for the fourth quarter of 2021 and for the whole year on January 19. At the same time, he expects to provide additional information about the incident.
