Russia (bbabo.net), - the European Parliament demands the creation of a new position of the European Commissioner, who will deal exclusively with ensuring the rights of our smaller brothers.

MEPs are sure that the EU pays too little attention to animal rights issues. Indeed, farms barbarously keep livestock in cages, and no one cares about the welfare of fish raised in artificial reservoirs. Therefore, parliamentarians insist that the post of animal protector be introduced into the new composition of the European Commission, which will be appointed in 2024.

In principle, this issue falls within the purview of the EU Commissioner for Health and Food Security Stella Kyriakidis. But it is clear that in the context of the coronavirus pandemic, she cannot pay enough attention to animal problems.

As a compromise step, in case of impossibility of allocating a new position of the European Commissioner, the advocates of animal rights propose to create a special directorate in the Brussels management structure. After all, the number of commissioners (in fact - ministers) is strictly limited - there are 27 of them according to the number of EU member states. But there are no different directorates, agencies and services. Now there are 56 of them in the European Commission, and the number of officials reaches 32 thousand, excluding various "freelancers". Ten years ago, there were only 33 specialized departments, and the bureaucratic apparatus consisted of 23 thousand officials.
