Spanish authorities have revealed that the strange UFO could be part of a rocket that hurtled down to earth.

A couple of shepherds were tending their flocks in their field in Murcia, southeastern Spain on Tuesday, when they came across a mysterious object that appeared to have fallen to earth from outer space.

The grey oval object was found by brothers, Francisco and Juan Espín del Amo, who deduced that “it must have fallen from the sky,” according to reports in local media.

“The UFO that fell in Murica on Tuesday wasn't an alien, it was only space junk” tweeted the Civil Guard on Wednesday.

The Civil Guard immediately activated its NRBQ protocol, for nuclear, radiological, bacterial or chemical threats and deployed experts to the scene to investigate the unusual object.

The expert, dressed in a bright green safety suit, conducted tests around the object, which was later confirmed to have come from space, possibly an auxiliary fuel tank from a rocket.

It is not the first time such items have fallen to earth.

“A few years ago similar objects were discovered in Brazil and Australia,” a Civil Guard explosives expert told El País.
