On January 16, the law “On Ensuring the Functioning of the Ukrainian Language as the State Language” came into force, which prohibits m, magazines and collections of crossword puzzles from being published in Russian. It is reported by TASS.

“In accordance with the law, print media can be published in other languages, provided that simultaneously with the corresponding edition of a publication in a foreign language, a circulation of this publication in the state language is published,” Taras Kremin, Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language, explained.

Earlier, Oksana Bogdanova, editor-in-chief of KP in Ukraine, said that it is too expensive to issue two print runs, since paper, printing and sales are the main items of expenditure.

For regional printed publications, an indulgence is provided. They can produce publications in their chosen language until 2024.

In April 2019, Ukraine adopted the law “On Ensuring the Functioning of the Ukrainian Language as the State Language”. From July 16, 2021, only films and TV series translated into Ukrainian should be broadcast on Ukrainian television, in addition, the state language has become mandatory for concerts, entertainment shows, exhibitions, tours, theaters and museums.
