Rosatom explained the cause of the congestion in the Arctic waters

Representatives of Rosatom blamed the “traffic jam” in the Arctic on the inconsistency of actions with the Ministry of Transport, Kommersant reports.

“The fact is that when distributing powers to manage navigation on the Northern Sea Route in 2018, some of them remained with the Ministry of Transport: we are talking about the Federal State Budgetary Institution “Administration of the Northern Sea Route”, which issues permits for the passage of ships. But as it turned out, the control was insufficient,” said Alexei Likhachev, Director General of Rosatom.

The incident occurred in November 2021, when more than 20 vessels formed a traffic jam in the waters of the Northern Sea Route.

“We have at least a naval operations headquarters (in Murmansk). And only the head of our NSR Directorate, Vyacheslav Ruksha, was able to explain at that meeting where which vessel was located and how to pull it out. We believe that it is necessary to work on the NSR in a “one stop shop” and understand the location of ships at any time,” Likhachev said.

Earlier it became known that the Northern Sea Route will be closed with an electronic dome.
