A kiss given by a wife to a young camel owned by her husband has sparked a call for divorce and a huge dispute between the couple’s families.

The incident started when the husband’s mother said she was outraged and shocked after seeing her daughter-in-law kiss a camel, stressing that she did something sinful and broke religious and social traditions.

The mother exerted pressure on her son to make him divorce his wife, saying that she would never accept that he lives with a woman with no respect for religious or social norms, Saudi news site Al Marsad reported on Tuesday.

The husband asked his wife for an explanation and she said that she acted spontaneously because she was happy with the camels that were generating money for the family.

She insisted, in the presence of her family, that she meant nothing else and that it was an innocent gesture without any other meanings.

The son, convinced that his wife was innocent, refused to divorce her and wanted to end the dispute by taking her home.

However, the mother upon seeing them together became very upset with her son for refusing to obey her orders.

And, despite all his efforts to make her reconsider her attitude towards his wife and himself, she refused to listen.

The wife, upset over the situation and angry with the accusations leveled at her by her mother-in-law, asked to be taken to her parents’ home.

The wife’s family became angry with her mother in law and they traded accusations and threats to take the case to the court despite the insistence of the couple, keen on staying together, for an end to the eerily strange situation.

Relatives stepped in to find a settlement that would be satisfactory to all parties, but although they succeeded in calming down the situation, they are still working on an end to the dispute.

The wife said that she was determined to stay with her husband and stressed that he had the same feelings about her.

However, she said she objected to living with his mother in the same house, especially that she was now certain the mother in law did not like her.

She added that she felt her husband’s mother did not want her in his life and that she used the camel kiss as an excuse to attack her bitterly and to put pressure on him to divorce her.

The wife said that the situation was compounded by the fact that she had not given birth to a baby, but added that her husband was well aware of the reasons for it.

The wife said that she looked forward to an end to the dispute and to living in peace with her husband.

She said she would continue to live with her husband despite the attempts by his mother to make him divorce her.
