Russia - Antibodies developed after omicron turned out to be weak protection against delta

Russia (bbabo.net), - Antibodies produced in the human body after suffering the disease with the "omicron" strain of coronavirus infection are not so effective in the fight against the "delta" strain. Moreover, if a person has been ill with the “delta” variant, then the antibodies after it, on the contrary, are able to neutralize the “omicron”.

This was announced by Andrey Isaev, Director General of the Scientific Center for Molecular Genetic Research DNKOM, referring to one of the latest studies on this topic. "Immunity after the transferred "omicron" does not work well for protection against other strains. Antibodies after the "delta" still protect a little from the "omicron", and antibodies after the "omicron" on the "delta" have very little effect. This suggests that "omicron" will not be the salvation and the end of the pandemic," Isaev told TASS.

In December last year, Italian doctors concluded that to counteract the "omicron" strain of coronavirus, the immune system may need 10-40 times more antibodies than to resist the original, not yet mutated Wuhan strain. The most effective was the protection of those people who were ill or vaccinated, and then injected with a booster, that is, they were revaccinated.

It is assumed that drugs based on antibodies to COVID-19 will also strengthen immunity in the future; research on this topic is already underway in Russia. In the US, meanwhile, scientists have discovered two previously unknown types of antibodies that, in theory, can be "multiplied" in the body so that it can more effectively resist the "omicron".
