WHO called the condition for the end of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2022

The head of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said that the COVID-19 pandemic could end in 2022 if comprehensive measures are taken, RIA Novosti reports.

“If countries make full use of all these strategies and tools, we will be able to end the acute phase of the pandemic this year. We will be able to end COVID-19 as a global health emergency,” he said.

He noted that now the world is in the "acute phase" of the pandemic, but humanity has all the tools to put an end to it, they must be used "fairly and reasonably."

“We must work together to bring the acute phase of this pandemic to a close. We cannot let it drag on any longer, slipping into panic or neglect,” he said.

Ghebreyesus recalled that as part of the COVAX vaccine fair distribution program, 1 billion doses of vaccines were delivered, while the pace of vaccination in the world is still far from ideal. Thus, the head of WHO pointed out, 34 countries have not yet been able to vaccinate 10% of their population, and in 86 countries less than 40% have been vaccinated.

Previously, a number of experts expressed the opinion that the pandemic will end in 2022. As the immunologist Vladislav Zhemchugov noted, the main “task” of the Omicron strain that has recently been spreading is the massive “seeding” of the planet, later it will find a new host, because humanity will form an inhibitory collective immunity.
