Russia - Patriarch Kirill: The Church is trying to bring Christians of East and West closer together

Russia (bbabo.net), - The Russian Orthodox Church is trying to bring Christians of the East and West closer, bringing their positions closer on many controversial issues of our time, but not to the detriment of the "purity of faith." This was stated by Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia after the Divine Liturgy on the thirteenth anniversary of his enthronement. The liturgy was held in the church of the right-believing Prince Alexander Nevsky in the skete of the same name near the village of Peredelkino near Moscow.

On February 1, the Russian Orthodox Church celebrated the 13th anniversary of the enthronement - the enthronement of Patriarch Kirill. On the same day, the Russian Orthodox Church commemorates the 15th-century Saint Mark, Archbishop of Ephesus, who was a defender of Orthodoxy and opposed the signing of a union between Western and Eastern Christianity at the Ferrara-Florence Cathedral.

After the end of the Divine Liturgy, Patriarch Kiril noted that the Russian Orthodox Church "is not closed in on itself, we have extensive and important external ties aimed at bringing the positions of Christians closer on many issues of our time and thereby making Christians of the East and West closer."

According to the primate, one must strive for the unity of Christians, it is not by chance that in churches at every liturgy they pray for "the unity of all God's Churches." However, it is important that "under the guise of the reunification of Christianity, the destruction of the Church of Christ does not occur."

Therefore, Patriarch Kirill said, "we must combine prayers for reunion with concern for the purity of faith - the very faith that was passed down to us from the holy apostles."
