Ford wants to transform its driverless cars into a movie theater

Ford plans on introducing fully autonomous cars by 2020. And now the automaker is thinking about how to make your driverless car experience as enjoyable as possible — in the form of a giant projection screen that takes over your windshield, Tech Insider reports.

In a patent filed 2013 Ford outlines an entertainment control system that can detect when the car is in autonomous mode and then display movies on a screen that would cover the windshield.

The screen is capable of folding up into the ceiling when not in use and transfering what was being projected on the screen to another display on the dashboard or even come in the form of the rearview mirror.

Ford isn't the only automaker thinking of creative ways car interiors can change when driverless technology comes to market. Volvo is developing a screen that will stream movies and TV shows when driving in autonomous mode. The car will even change your route so it only arrives at the destination when your show is done, though it's skeptical people would elect to have longer car rides under any circumstances.
