Forming a strong defense against new infections is the most urgent task for the scientific community, Russian President Vladimir Putin is convinced. He expressed this opinion when opening the meeting of the Council for Science and Education.
"I'll start with the most urgent task that is in demand today - to form a strong, reliable protection against new infections," TASS reports Putin's words.
The President of Russia recalled that the government had already taken a whole range of strategic measures to create new drugs, a system for monitoring and preventing biological risks and threats.
According to him, it is necessary to bring this work to an even higher level by creating a powerful technological base and infrastructure that will allow promptly launching the production of effective drugs and vaccines when new unknown infections appear.
“To do this, we must have our own, domestic equipment, components, raw materials, advanced and even unique competencies in the development and use of pharmaceuticals, including new generation medicines, including for the treatment of infections resistant to modern antibiotics,” Putin summed up.
