Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed a decree on the allocation of more than 400 million rubles. for the procedure of sequencing (genetic analysis) of the “omicron” strain of coronavirus, the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers reports.
The funds will be allocated from the government reserve fund to subordinate institutions of Rospotrebnadzor and will be used to purchase equipment, enzymes and consumables for the qualitative determination of ribonucleic acid (RNA) chains of the omicron genovariant. Thanks to funding, at least 57.2 thousand samples will be examined.
During a meeting of the Presidium of the Coordinating Council under the government to combat the spread of coronavirus on February 2, Mishustin stressed that it is necessary to continue further study of circulating strains.
“Timely research is needed to effectively monitor the changing situation,” the Prime Minister stressed.
Last December, Rospotrebnadzor reported that Russia was the first to study the Omicron strain in South Africa.
