The President of the Federation of Migrants criticized measures to limit the work of visitors in Kaluga

Vadim Kozhenov, President of the Federation of Migrants, shared his opinion regarding the decision of the Governor of the Kaluga Region Vladislav Shapsha to limit the areas of work for visitors to the region in a conversation with Lenta.ru. In his opinion, the ban for immigrants from Central Asia to work in the areas of trade, catering and passenger transportation will not help solve problems globally. He added that such statements by the authorities are made in order to reduce public discontent, while issues of migration policy require a more thorough approach.

“Great, we support! But that won't help solve the problem. This problem is long-term, systemic, we discussed it at the highest level,” he said.

Kozhenov also criticized the system for issuing certificates of knowledge of the Russian language. According to him, it creates a large space for corruption, and the organizations that issue certificates themselves periodically find themselves in the dock.

“We are in favor of canceling this exam specifically for labor [migrants], because this is just corruption. But if a person claims the status of a citizen, wants to stay here, then the exam should be taken not by these muddy "ooshki", but by educational institutions with a license (...) Now how is it done: "OOO-shka" is taken, an agreement is concluded , starts selling these certificates, then a case is initiated, it closes and a new one opens,” Kozhenov said.

On Friday, February 11, Governor of the Kaluga Region Vladimir Shapsha announced the introduction in the region of a number of bans for migrants to work in the areas of trade, catering and passenger transportation, and also banned visitors from obtaining simplified citizenship. Decisions to tighten are being made against the backdrop of a tense situation with migrants in the region.
