The number of people injured in the fire at the printing house of the Bank of France increased to 34

At least 34 people were injured in a fire that broke out in the printing house of the Bank of France near the city of Clermont-Ferrand in the commune of Chamalieres, according to actu.fr, citing the police department of the Puy-de-Dome.

10 of them were hospitalized. Two firefighters were among the injured.

The fire started around 10:00 am local time in the building of the Bank of France, where banknotes are printed. The cause of the fire has not been specified at this time. The prosecutor's office of Clermont-Ferrand is investigating.

The factory's 387 employees were evacuated to safety, while Chamalier residents were advised to stay at home and keep their windows closed due to thick smoke billowing from the burning factory.

The printing house in Chamalier is one of 11 high-security printing houses in Europe and produces one fifth of the European Union's banknotes. In 2017, the number of its staff was about 700 employees.
