US chief infectious disease specialist Dr. Anthony Fauci said that the full-blown phase of the COVID-19 pandemic in the US is nearing its end. He said this in an interview with the Financial Times.

The specialist said that he hopes for a gradual lifting of restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic in a few months.

“As we emerge from the full blown phase of the COVID-19 pandemic, decisions on restrictions will increasingly be made locally rather than centrally. There will also be more people making their own decisions about how they want to fight the virus,” the medic said.

Prior to this, Dr. Fauci had stated that no one could escape infection with the Omicron strain due to its increased contagiousness.
