Russia - How the regions of the Central Federal District prepared for a new wave of coronavirus infection

Russia (bbabo.net), - The new wave of coronavirus has become the reason for the introduction of restrictive measures in the regions of the Central Federal District. The first thing that was done in most regions was the transfer of public service institutions to reception by appointment: registry offices, employment centers, social protection and other organizations. Employees from the so-called risk group have switched to a remote work format.

- In terms of its contagiousness, the Omicron strain exceeds even measles, which is traditionally considered a very contagious disease. They will get sick in whole schools, entrances and houses, - warned the director of the health department of the Vladimir region Artem Osipov.

According to him, "omicron" is inferior in severity to "delta" and rarely causes severe forms of the disease, however, due to the effect of scale, the number of severe forms can be exceeded in comparison with all previous waves. Therefore, in no case should one neglect the existing methods of protection against coronavirus infection, including wearing a mask, maintaining social distance, and using gloves. Vaccination remains the best method of preventing COVID-19, including the Omicron strain, the head of the Department of Health emphasizes.

- The load on the health care system will exceed all the levels that we recorded in previous waves - predict the Vladimir Department of Health. - From this we calculate the necessary drug supply, and the volume of medical care, and the number of beds.

Due to the explosive growth in the incidence in the regions of the Central Federal District, the volume of planned medical care was limited, mainly in the areas of otorhinolaryngology, ophthalmology and dermatology. In the Kostroma region, medical examinations of the population and medical examinations were suspended for a month. Red zones have been expanded in Vladimir polyclinics, where you can undergo express and PCR testing for covid, see a doctor, and receive medicines.

Military doctors arrive in the Tula region to help regional health care. For the duration of their work, they are provided with accommodation and three meals a day, transportation from the hotel to the hospital and back.

Meanwhile, a new infectious diseases hospital with 360 beds (with the possibility of expanding to 790) has been launched in Ivanovo. It began to be built in 2020, during the first wave of the pandemic. The contract with the contractor was concluded in October, by the end of December they hoped to accept the object. But it was not there. As Governor Stanislav Voskresensky later explained, "the builders screwed up" and it took another year to complete the work. By the end of January, the institution was operating at full capacity, said Artur Fokin, head of the Ivanovo Region Health Department:

- The incidence rate and the level of hospitalization that we have now allow us to get by with an infectious diseases hospital without re-profiling other institutions. However, we remain vigilant and continue to prepare for the fifth wave.

Since children are already massively infected, in the Yaroslavl region (specifically, in the Tutaev Central District Hospital) 30 additional beds have been opened specifically for this category of patients. In total, 169 beds have been deployed in the region to provide inpatient care to children with COVID-19, including for children with their mothers. Of these, according to the Department of Health, about 74 percent are now occupied.

Meanwhile, vaccination of adolescents aged 12-17 has begun in many regions.

According to the regional ministries of health, the Sputnik M (Gam-COVID-Vak M) vaccine has arrived in all regions of the Central District and is now being distributed to medical institutions.
