Rodnina: they hunt us, but we step on a rake all the time

Three-time Olympic champion in figure skating, State Duma deputy Irina Rodnina spoke about the doping scandal around figure skater Kamila Valieva. She stated that attention in world sports to Russian athletes is always increased, and the price of even a minor offense in anti-doping legislation is very high. According to Rodnina, there has been a "hunt" for Russian athletes for many years.

“The most important thing to understand is that we are being hunted. And every time we step on some kind of rake and, by and large, give clues, for which they then begin to hang everything on us. Yes, we all worried about the girl, who is 15 years old. And what if now, by a majority of votes, they decide that since Russia does not respond to punishments and mistakes, expel it from the Olympic movement for several years so that it cleanses itself from the inside? How will we then look into the eyes of boys and girls who will not be able to realize their dream of participating in the biggest competitions?

The guys have been performing without a flag and without an anthem for the fourth Olympiad. Stunning, of course, the music of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky - all my life I dreamed of skating to it. But they now bear the burden of responsibility for the previous generation that made mistakes. We passed on the sins of the previous generation to them.

Remember: 20 years ago, the Salt Lake City Olympics. An hour before the competition, our women's ski team is suspended, Larisa Lazutina is deprived of her medal. 20 years have passed, and we are about the same place. We want to be happy for our guys. In the last two days, skiers give us medals, and we want to see them clean.

If someone thinks that I spoke emotionally - well, of course emotionally! But how much is possible? In 2016, we adopted so many programs and regulations that both WADA and the IOC demanded of us in order to clean up. And we have a law on doping, not all countries have such laws. And something doesn’t teach us anything, ”said Rodnina.

Earlier, Rodnina said that after the CAS decision on Valieva, we all sighed a little.
