Pesticide banned in Russia found on the bank of a Russian river

The North Ural Interregional Directorate of Rosprirodnadzor reported that the substance that was found in the ground on the banks of the Irtysh in the Tobolsk district of the Tyumen region turned out to be the Granozan pesticide. It is banned for use in Russia. URA.RU writes about it.

The pesticide leaked from containers that were buried in the ground. They were outside after the shore collapsed.

On August 23 last year, a message was received about the discovery of an unknown lilac-colored substance on the river bank. It was on the ground around metal containers with traces of corrosion.

Granozan belongs to the first class of danger. Due to its extreme toxicity in Russia, its use was banned.

The content of mercury in the soil where the pesticide was found exceeded the background value by 540 times.

The environmental prosecutor's office estimated the damage at 108,720 rubles.

Earlier it became known that insects could become extinct within the next century, scientists warn. They will be followed by insect-eating animals left without food and plants pollinated by insects. To prevent this from happening, the researchers advise reconsidering approaches to agriculture - it is because of it that insects lose their habitats and die from pesticides.
