Russia - An off-site trial has begun on two new criminal cases against blogger Navalny

Russia (bbabo.net), - On Tuesday, February 15, an offsite hearing of the Lefortovo Court of Moscow on a new case against Alexei Navalny began in the penal colony N2 in Pokrov, Vladimir Region.

In the new process, two cases are being heard - about a particularly large-scale fraud with the funds of their own supporters and about contempt of court.

All media representatives who sent an application for accreditation the day before were allowed into the regime colony - almost 90 journalists. In the assembly hall of the colony, where the visiting session was held, the blogger's wife, Yulia Navalnaya, was also present. Some of the journalists followed the process from the hall, while the majority - via video broadcast. The first 4 hours of the meeting were spent considering motions from the defense and Navalny himself. The lawyers demanded that the case be returned to the prosecutor. According to lawyer Vadim Kobzev, the Navalny case was erroneously referred to the Lefortovo court. In addition, he saw a mistake, as it seemed to him, in the very accusation of fraud. The lawyers also asked the court to return their phones, computers and voice recorders, which they were not allowed to bring into the colony. And the defendant himself said that he had the right to be in the process not in a prison uniform, but in civilian clothes.

In addition, Navalny said that he is the only prisoner in the country to whom visiting courts come. Although he himself does not want "any exclusivity, but just wants to be an ordinary convict."

However, there is no exclusivity in such an off-site court session. According to the official data of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia, from January 1, 2019 to January 1, 2022, 8,947 field meetings were held in institutions of the executive system in relation to 9,057 people.

And also, according to Navalny, the process was deliberately closed so that he would not tell the truth. But there was no talk of any closed process. Everything that the blogger said was carefully listened to and filmed by numerous journalists, including those from the opposition media. And Navalny also considered that the case of contempt of court was due to the fact that the judge allegedly "did not give him the floor to say" in that process. Judge Margarita Kotova rejected all motions of the defense and the defendant. After lunch, the indictment against Navalny was read out by the state prosecutor.

Last year, at the libel trial against a veteran of the Great Patriotic War, which took place in the Babushkinsky court, Navalny repeatedly insulted the judge, prosecutor and participants in the process. This case, by decision of the investigation, was combined with the main charge of 4 episodes of fraud. They concern the theft of funds from the Anti-Corruption Fund (FBK is a foreign agent organization recognized as extremist, banned in the Russian Federation and liquidated by a court decision). According to the state prosecution, Navalny stole and spent more than 2.7 million rubles for personal needs, which were donated to the foundation. But this amount may still increase, earlier the representatives of the investigation voiced the damage of 350 million rubles.

After donations were credited, large sums were debited from Navalny's bitcoin wallets

As part of the investigation, it was possible to find out that at the moment when funds were received in the fund’s accounts as donations, 222 bitcoins were withdrawn from Alexei Navalny’s bitcoin wallets, which is equivalent to about 97 million rubles at the cryptocurrency exchange rate for that period.

In addition, from 2017 to the beginning of 2020, Navalny and his family members made 21 expensive trips abroad. 4 trips were made to the USA, 3 trips to Spain and Germany, 2 times the blogger visited Italy, Austria and Thailand. The blogger's family once visited France, Greece, Egypt and Latvia during that period.

The last time - before the borders were closed due to the coronavirus - Navalny went to rest with his wife in Paris on February 14. This was the 22nd trip. But the most expensive - it took almost 3 million rubles.

While the parents were basking in the capital of France and in other European capitals, Navalny's daughter Daria was studying at one of the most prestigious US universities - Stanford. According to the most conservative estimates, Navalny had to pay more than 10 million rubles for the girl's stay at Stanford alone.

And it's not all expenses. Navalny were spotted driving a Chevrolet Traverse car worth about 4 million rubles. According to some reports, the car was registered to the blogger's unemployed wife Yulia.

Now Navalny, whom Rosfinmonitoring has included in the registerrorists and extremists, is serving a term in a general regime colony in the Vladimir region. On February 2 last year, the Simonovsky Court of Moscow, on the proposal of the Federal Penitentiary Service, canceled his suspended sentence in the Yves Rocher case and replaced it with a real one of three and a half years in a colony.
