Russia - How not to make a mistake when treating omicron at home

Russia (bbabo.net), - "Omicron" many people treat at home. What are the treatment options for children and the elderly? When will the decision to issue QR codes for antibodies come into effect? Experts - Weeks answer questions from our readers.

How to get a QR-code for a sick person if he did not go to the doctors?

From February 21, QR codes will be available to those who had COVID-19, but did not go to a medical institution and did not get into the federal register. Now you can enter data on the presence of antibodies (IgG) in the certificate. This confirms that a person is protected by natural immunity.

Test results for the presence of antibodies to coronavirus can be obtained from any accredited laboratory. An important point: to obtain a certificate and a QR code, the level of antibodies is not needed, the very fact of their presence is important. Therefore, it is possible to perform not a quantitative analysis, but a qualitative one - it is cheaper in commercial laboratories.

At the request of a citizen, the date of the analysis, data on the research method and the name of the medical organization will be entered on the public services portal. The certificate is issued in Russian and English within three days, it is formed only once for a period of six months.

How to treat when infected with "omicron" in old age?

Elderly patients, who, as a rule, have accumulated a bunch of sores, as well as people with chronic diseases, should not stop therapy for the main diagnosis. “The elderly and chronically ill remain at risk. Even a mild course of the coronavirus can provoke a deterioration in their underlying disease,” warns Nadezhda Runikhina, chief geriatrician of the Moscow Department of Health.

The second rule is not to self-medicate, not to take antibiotics without a doctor's prescription. “For mild SARS and coronavirus, you can seek an audio consultation or come to an appointment with the doctor on duty. In most cases, specific therapy is not needed, only symptomatic, for example, taking antipyretics,” said the geriatrician.

“But even with a mild course, it is important for patients to remember that therapy of the underlying disease must be carried out carefully. Patients must take the drugs that were prescribed by the doctor,” Runikhina recalled. This applies to hypertensive patients, diabetics and other chronics.

“First of all, diseases such as ischemic heart disease with arrhythmias, heart failure, diabetes mellitus can worsen in elderly patients. And as a separate group, I would single out patients who are observed by an oncologist,” added the geriatrician.

Children are now getting sick en masse. How to help a child with symptoms of SARS and how not to miss Omicron?

"It is dangerous to self-medicate if the child's symptoms of the disease increase. This may be a prolonged increase in body temperature, which does not decrease, gastrointestinal upset (diarrhea, vomiting), especially in young children (under five years of age), the appearance of shortness of breath, increasing intoxication. All these manifestations require a visit to a doctor," Alena Mikhailova, pediatrician at Invitro-Ural, warned.

The doctor also named common mistakes in treatment. Firstly, this is an unjustified "knocking down" of temperature. “If a child calmly tolerates fever, you don’t need to immediately lower it, this is a manifestation of the body’s defense. It makes sense to take antipyretics at 38.5 and above. But if a child does not tolerate fever, he used to have convulsions on it, traumatic brain injuries, then you need to lower the temperature from 38 degrees," the doctor explained.

The second common mistake is self-administration of antibiotics at the first sign of SARS.

The third mistake is to leave the child in bed without fail. "If the child feels normal, there is no need for bed rest. On the contrary, moderate activity helps cough up sputum and improves the psychological state of the child," says the doctor.

Also, if the child is coughing, it is important to choose the right drug, but this should be done by a doctor. “The choice of medicine depends on the nature of the cough. If the cough is wet, drugs that suppress the cough reflex should not be used. This can provoke the accumulation of sputum in the lungs and lead to complications,” Mikhailova warned.

In addition, it is not recommended to use mustard plasters - you can burn the delicate baby skin, and the load on the cardiovascular system also increases.

Inhalations "over the pot" also create a risk of burning the face and respiratory tract from hot steam, not to mention the fact that the pan can tip over.
