According to the Higher School of Economics, in the 2021 admissions campaign, the most popular areas were Healthcare, Informatics and Computer Science, Pedagogical Education, Jurisprudence, and Economics. For the first time, applicants planning to become teachers have overtaken those who entered the legal field in number.

According to the Ministry of Education, over the past two years, enrollment in the direction of "Education and Pedagogical Sciences" has grown by almost 10 thousand people. In 2022, more than 75 thousand places in universities have been allocated for potential teachers.

"The word "teacher" among today's youth is increasingly associated with the word "prestige". It is important for us that all the guys who choose this path are confident in their future, in their place of work, so that they have a comfortable entrance to the profession" - said Minister of Education Sergei Kravtsov.

The quality of reception is also growing. According to HSE Academic Supervisor Yaroslav Kuzminov, the growing reputation of Pedagogical Education over the past ten years is one of the most significant changes in both Russian higher education and the labor market.

By the way, within the framework of the project of the Ministry of Education "Teacher of the Future Generation of Russia", pedagogical universities are being modernized: not only working and studying conditions are changing, but also programs for training and advanced training of teachers. Almost 5 billion rubles were allocated for these purposes in 2021.

- Pedagogy took the lead, and three factors played a role here. Firstly, in large cities, in those regions where the salaries of teachers have become decent, this has attracted applicants to pedagogical universities. But this is not the case everywhere, and this must be borne in mind.

The second point: the teacher is a very creative, very interesting job. But it has never been prestigious or profitable, even in Soviet times. And now 100-pointers, talented and educated guys who are ready to work in this area, have gone into the profession.

The third point is that the situation has changed since the 1990s. Then everyone went to legal and economic specialties, but today such a number of lawyers and economists are not required, and they cannot find work. Young people felt it very well.

- I would like to believe that school applicants were so interested in studying that they wanted to find themselves in this area. The children should be motivated by the personal example of their teachers, because the teacher is a "long-range profession". A lesson is much more than a story at the blackboard. There are a lot of extraordinary, bright personalities in the pedagogical community who demonstrate truly unique forms of teaching a lesson.
