Japanese princess Yoko develops pneumonia amid COVID-19

Japanese Princess Yoko has been hospitalized with pneumonia, which developed against the background of infection with a coronavirus infection. This is reported by People with reference to the news agency of the Imperial Palace.

The 38-year-old princess was confirmed infected with COVID-19 last week the day after she felt a sore throat. She was sent to the Imperial Palace Hospital and then transferred to the University of Tokyo Hospital for further treatment.

Princess Yoko, daughter of the late Prince Tomohito, cousin of the former Emperor Akihito, became the first member of the Japanese imperial family to contract the coronavirus. Her elder sister Akiko, who had been in contact with the princess a few days before the illness, tested negative for COVID-19.

Under what circumstances Princess Yoko might have become infected is unclear, as she has not taken part in any gatherings recently. The last event she attended was held at the Imperial Palace on January 30th.

Earlier it was reported that the Duchess of Cornwall Camilla received a positive test result for COVID-19.
