WHO to announce results of study on origins of COVID-19 in coming weeks

The World Health Organization (WHO) Scientific Advisory Panel on Emerging Dangerous Pathogens (SAGO), which is studying the origins of the coronavirus, will announce the results of its work in the coming weeks. This was stated by the head of the European office of WHO Hans Kluge, RIA Novosti reports.

“Last October, WHO established the Scientific Advisory Group on the Origin of New Pathogens. It has met seven times and we expect some results or recommendations in the coming weeks,” Kluge said at the briefing.

In addition to the question of the origin of the coronavirus, the group is also working on a special system for determining the emergence of new pathogens, he added.

In early February, scientists from around the world sent a letter to the Chinese government demanding that they reopen the investigation into the outbreak of the pandemic in order to prevent similar events in the future. They believe that due to the intransigence of the Chinese government and the aggressive pressure it is exerting on foreign governments and international institutions, a comprehensive international investigation into the causes of the COVID-19 pandemic has not yet been launched.

Prior to this, Republicans from the US House of Representatives James Comer and Jim Jordan sent a letter to the country's Minister of Health and Human Services Javier Becerra, in which they expressed the opinion that the country's chief infectious disease specialist Anthony Fauci hid information related to the theory of the laboratory origin of coronavirus.
