Every tenth Russian intends to quit his job and become a freelancer

The educational platform GeekBrains conducted a study on the career development of Russians and found out who chooses IT professions, what areas and specialties are most in demand, and how much Russians are willing to pay for education. The results of the survey are available.

Thus, more than a quarter (26.8%) of respondents admitted that they plan to learn a new profession. 12.6% want to find an additional source of income or a part-time job. Every tenth (10.2%) plans to completely change the field of activity, the same number want to leave work and become a freelancer and do projects to order.

One third (31.4%) of respondents are ready to pay 30,000 rubles or more for annual education. Only free education is considered by 35.2% of respondents. 33.4% are ready to study if the cost of the courses does not exceed 30,000 rubles.

Every fifth Russian is already studying in a new specialty, and almost half (48%) of the study participants plan to start training in the near future.

At the same time, 17.1% noted that they study periodically, but want to devote more time to this process, and 7.3% of survey participants want to start studying, but not now.

Directions of study

More than 75% of respondents have not decided on the choice of the direction of study, and among those who know what they will choose, programming, marketing and design are in the greatest demand.

In IT, the professions of developer (29.3%), tester (16.8%) and system analyst (11.5%) are of the greatest interest. Also among the leaders among popular specialties are a designer (24.9%), an SMM manager (20.4%), a marketer (20%) and a specialist in setting up advertising on the Internet (16.8%).

How do they want to learn?

Respondents named the opportunity to study alone at home (35%) as the best condition for effective learning. At the same time, 18% of respondents noted that they would be distracted during training. Also, about 3% can study at work, in cafes and other places, and such conditions will not interfere with learning.

Among the main factors that can interfere with the learning process, respondents highlight lack of time (48.2%), loss of interest (36.2%) and lack of practice (26.9%). Laziness and the lack of quick results can stop 25.5% and 7.5% of the Russians surveyed, respectively, from learning.

It is more convenient for the majority of survey participants to study online: study materials on their own in the recording (64.7%), in group online classes (44.2%), live with a teacher (38.2%), in personal classes ( 25.8%. Also, some respondents noted that they are categorically against the distance format and prefer exclusively face-to-face (offline) education (2.4%).

419,926 people took part in the survey — platform participants, students of training programs, master classes and their own events from February 1, 2021 to January 31, 2022.
