Russia (bbabo.net) - A 45-year-old resident of Salavat appeared in court for leaving a cigarette butt that had not been extinguished, which caused a fire and the death of a child. This was reported in the prosecutor's office of Bashkiria.

The court found that in September 2021, the defendant, while intoxicated, left a smoldering cigarette butt in his apartment on the fourth floor of an apartment building and left. This caused a fire, as a result of which two children who were on the floor above were poisoned by combustion products. They were taken to the hospital. A four-year-old girl could not be saved, she died, and her 17-year-old sister received serious bodily harm.

The man pleaded guilty to the crimes. He was found guilty of causing death and grievous bodily harm through negligence. The court sentenced him to one year and eight months in prison to be served in a penal colony, the prosecutor's office of Bashkiria clarified.
