Dmitry Chernyshenko: it is necessary to develop tourist Sakhalin comprehensively

Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko spoke about the concept of the master plan for the tourist areas of the Sakhalin Region, which was developed by the Tourism.RF corporation and approved by the head of the Sakhalin Region, Valery Limarenko.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the implementation of projects to create a modern and safe tourist infrastructure on Sakhalin will ensure a four-fold increase in tourist flow by 2030.

“Russian President Vladimir Putin has called the rapid development of the Far East a key priority. The government is actively working to ensure socio-economic growth in the Far Eastern regions. The Sakhalin Region is the only subject of the country located on the islands. This feature, as well as remoteness from the central part of Russia, limits its accessibility for tourists.

It is necessary to develop "tourist" Sakhalin in a complex way - to build hotels for all-season recreation, use eco-technologies, and ensure transport connectivity of the territory. The implementation of projects to create a modern and safe tourist infrastructure on Sakhalin will ensure a four-fold increase in tourist flow by 2030. According to the Corporation "Tourism.RF", the island will be able to visit annually more than 1 million people - Russians and foreign tourists," said Chernyshenko.

At the moment, Sakhalin is most often visited by guests from Moscow, St. Petersburg, as well as large cities of the Far East. These are lovers of outdoor activities (skiing, cycling) and travelers who are attracted by the natural uniqueness of the region. There are also guests from Japan, South Korea, the USA and China. On average, tourists spend four days on the island and spend 5-5.5 thousand rubles a day per person. Most trips are self-organized and prefer to stay in hotels for up to 4 nights.

“The draft master plan is the next stage of our joint work with the Sakhalin Region, a cooperation agreement with which was concluded in the fall of 2021. Comprehensive planning for the development of Sakhalin as a new tourist center in the Far East involves joint work on the development of the transport component and hospitality infrastructure with the Ministry for the Development of the Far East, the Ministry of Construction of Russia, and the regional administration. All these measures will increase the attractiveness of the region both for travelers from Russia and for guests from abroad,” said Sergey Sukhanov, General Director of the Corporation “Tourism.RF”.
