Named the dirtiest country in the EU

The Statistical Office of the EU named Bulgaria the dirtiest country in the union. This was reported on the website of the regulator.

Eurostat recorded an increase in greenhouse gas emissions associated with the recovery of business activity. Bulgaria became the leader of growth - the volume of its emissions increased by 22.7% compared to last year. It is followed by Latvia, where the growth was 16.2% and Greece with 13.1%.

Earlier, a new source of greenhouse gases was found in Siberia. As an international group of scientists from Finland, Russia and Germany found out, when permafrost thaws on the so-called yedomas - the uplands of Eastern Siberia rich in organic material - a large amount of an extremely active greenhouse gas, nitrous oxide N2O, is released. Nitrous oxide is normally produced by microbes in the soil. And although this gas is not as abundant in the atmosphere as carbon dioxide and methane, it has a much more significant effect on increasing global temperatures: in this sense, its effect is almost 300 times greater than the effect of carbon dioxide.

Prior to that, mass cutting of commercial spruce plantations began in Scotland. Thus, it is planned to restore the drying peatlands on which they grow. According to local experts, this way you can save the planet from greenhouse gases.
